Lewiston is an all-season paradise. Located 25 miles southeast of Gaylord, the Lewiston area features an abundance of lakes, for both fishermen and power boating enthusiasts. East and West Twin Lakes are right near town and are large enough for power boats and waterskiing. Approximately 40 other lakes are within a short drive from town as well. Most lakes have public access and produce a variety of fish including pan fish, northern pike, bass and walleye.

A number of ATV and snowmobile trails are nearby, and ATVs are allowed on county roads here. Also the beautiful Garland Golf Resort is just 5 miles from town, and downhill and cross-country skiing is available within 20 miles. Downtown Lewiston offers a variety of small shops and restaurants. State forest campgrounds are located at nearby Avery Lake, Big Bear Lake, and Little Wolf Lake.

Each spring, Lewiston holds a Morel Mushroom Festival, as locals and visitors search the woods for the elusive and delicious morel mushroom. In August, the Lewiston Timberfest features live entertainment, a food court, chainsaw carvers, crafters, and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Each January the Sno*Drift Rally begins here, with drivers from around the world competing in the multi-stage race. This is the only Rally America event that is held in winter conditions.
